The first documented mention of establishment of a summer residence at the estate in Mîndîc, named “Vila Mîndîc” by its owner, dates back to 1894. The person who wanted to have the park designed and arranged was Kajetan Ohanowicz, a landowner with 1,260 hectares of land in the upper part of the Cubolta valley. The “Vila Mîndîc” complex was designed by the famous Bessarabian architect named Alexander Bernardazzi (1831-1907). After WWII, the property became owned by the state. The museum of “Mîndîc villa and park complex” was established there in 1997 – functioning as a branch of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. Today there are 12 buildings-monuments protected by law and 16 buildings built in contemporary times. Unfortunately, the infrastructure of the park deteriorated considerably over the recent decades.

2014

The task to be pursued by the Cultural Heritage Foundation in 2014 involved developing a programme of restoring the historic park to its former glory and carrying out the first stage of conservation of the chapel of the Ohanowicz family found within the “Vila Mîndîc” complex.

The planned restoration activities started from a ordering a set of pre-design works aimed at developing a base-map for the site.  This included also a graphic and descriptive survey with a detailed marking of trees and relevant photographs.  As part of the project, the conservation team preserved also the sepulchral chapel of the Ohanowicz family.

The preparatory works required for the restoration of the park were supervised by Barbara Werner, PhD.

The first stage of conservation at the chapel of the Ohanowicz family was carried out by out by Janusz Smaza, PhD, and Kazimierz Patejuk.

The project was carried out thanks to the Minister of Culture and National Heritage’s funds granted to the Foundation as part of the “Cultural Heritage” programme, priority: “Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad”.
