The building of the Galician Savings Bank in Lviv (currently the Museum of Ethnography and Crafts of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) was built in the period 1889-1891 based on a design of Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz. Its Neo-Renaissance form impressed with its rich architectural décor and the range of features found in the interiors. A sculpture entitled “Fortune” by Julian Markowski was featured inside the building. The building’s façade was adorned with another sculpture – “Thrift” by Leonard Marconi, and the rooms and corridors boasted a range of beautiful woodcarving features, glazed ceramics, and colourful stained-glass works decorating the windows of the staircases.

2014

In 2014, one of the most amazing elements of decoration of the interiors of the Galician Savings Bank – the stained-glass window fixed in the ceiling plafond of one of the main rooms in 1892 – underwent a major conservation treatment. The decorative element was handled by Tiroler Glasmalerei und Mosaik Anstalt from Innsbruck.

The task was carried out by a team composed of Ewelina and Robert Kędzielewski.

The project was financed from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage’s funds granted to the Foundation as part of the “Cultural Heritage” programme, priority: “Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad”.
