Montrésor is a small town located west of Paris, in the valley of the Indrois River. In the mid-19thcentury the local castle was bought by Count Xavier Branicki (1816-1879). In 1863, he allotted a piece of land on a small hill to be used as a cemetery and had a sepulchral chapel built there. It was designed by three French architects: Vion, Oudet, and Moreau. The cemetery is the resting place of people affiliated with the Branicki, Rey, and Potocki families, as well as other Polish emigrants.

2017

The year 2017 marked the reconstruction of the bas-relief Pilawa coat of arms itself. The renewed emblem can be seen in the triangular coping of the south-west wall of the chapel. This was also the year of restoration of the cornice of the building’s top, bearing in mind the fleuron ornamentation of it.

The conservation works were carried out by Jakub Kurkiewicz under the supervision of Prof. Janusz Smaza.

The task was carried out thanks to the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage’s funds granted to the Association of Academic Traditions (the Foundation’s partner) as part of the programme entitled “Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad”.

2016

The year 2016 marked the beginning of conservation works at the cemetery. The first thing done was to take care of the south-west top of the chapel of the Branicki, Potocki, and Rey families. The activities undertaken involved restoring e.g. the bas-relief cartouche surrounding the Pilawa coat of arms of the Potocki family.

The said works were carried out by Jakub Kurkiewicz under the supervision of Prof. Janusz Smaza.

The task was carried out thanks to the Minister of Culture and National Heritage’s funds granted to the Association of Academic Traditions (the Foundation’s partner) as part of the “Cultural Heritage” programme, priority: “Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad”.
