The 3rdInternational Scientific Congress entitled “The state of Research on the Multicultural Heritage of the Former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth” – Poland’s biggest academic conference on Polish cultural heritage abroad – took place on 30-02 October 2015 in Białystok.

The congress attracted over 100 participants from Poland, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine, who gave over 80 presentations in total, covering fields such as history, history of art, literature studies, art and architectural conservation studies, historic monument inventorying, archives studies, library science, archaeology, and other disciplines. Like before, the event bore fruit in the form of a post-congress publication. 

The main organiser of the congress was the European Cultural Heritage Research Institute supported by the University of Bialystok and the Cultural Heritage Foundation. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Minister of Science and Higher Education. The event was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage’s Department of Cultural Heritage, and supported with funds provided by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the “Cultural Heritage” programme, priority: “Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad” and with resources granted by the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

2012

The 2ndInternational Scientific Congress entitled “The State of Research on the Multicultural Heritage of the Former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth” – Poland’s biggest academic conference on Polish cultural heritage abroad – took place on 14-16 November 2012 in Warsaw.

The congress included presentations and discussions of the latest research results and findings concerning Polish cultural heritage found outside Poland. The event brought over 100 people together, who gave over 80 presentations. Warsaw hosted the most prominent Polish, Swedish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Belarusian, and Ukrainian experts in the fields of history, history of art, literature studies, art and architectural conservation studies, historic monument inventorying, archives studies, library science, archaeology, and other disciplines. The congress session bore fruit in the form of a three-volume post-congress publication featuring over 70 academic papers.

The event was organised by: the European Cultural Heritage Research Institute, the Cultural Heritage Foundation, the University of Bialystok, and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage’s Department of Cultural Heritage. The event was organised under the patronage of the National Library of Poland. The congress was held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The third edition of the event was set to take place in autumn 2015 in Białystok. It will be co-organised by the Cultural Heritage Foundation.
