the 2019 gala

The 5th Gala of the Cultural Heritage Foundation took place on 9 May 2019 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

The event was a great opportunity to sum up all activities undertaken by the Foundation in the last twelve months. In 2018, as many as seven churches and five cemeteries underwent conservation works, mostly in the Ukraine and France, but also in Warsaw or Studzianka. This included preserving around 150 historic grave markers and a range of other works of sepulchral art. Further editions of important volunteer initiatives were taking part under the auspices of the Foundation. On the occasion of 100 years of independence of Poland, an open event that featured traditional Polish dance workshops and concerts by 4 bands was held.
Apart from the summary of the Foundation’s activity, the Gala at the Royal Castle included also screening of two films directed by Artur Jaworski: one about Jews fighting in Józef Piłsudski’s Legions and the other about the Collegiate Church of St Lawrence in Zhovkva, where the Foundation has been carrying out renovation works for the last four years.
The “Meritorious for Polish Culture” decorations of honour were also awarded during the Gala. They were awarded to entrepreneurs from Bełchatów, Zdzisław Pawłowski, Krzysztof Lesiak, Jadwiga Tumidajewicz, Franciszek Więcławski, Roman Szczęsny, and Łukasz Węda, President of Studzianka Development Association, working with the Foundation for many years now. It was also the fifth time when the Cultural Heritage Foundation’s scholarship was awarded to a student of conservation and restoration of works of art to work on a graduation project. This year’s scholarship awardee is Zuzanna Jarmulska. An important part of the evening was also decorating the Foundation’s President, Michał Laszczkowski, PhD, with the “Pro Bono Poloniae” medal.
