o projekcie

Soviet authorities had made every effort to destroy this important Polish necropolis for many years. In 2005, the Lviv Defenders’ Cemetery came to be restored, consecrated, and officially opened to the public. But something was still missing. The two stone lions guarding the Monument of Glory were removed from the cemetery in the 1970s.

2015

Many years of endeavour earned Polish stakeholders the favour of the administrative authorities of the city of Lviv. And thus, 17 December 2015 saw the lions come back to their original place as a result of fruitful collaboration with Ukrainian partners.

The entirety of activities involving restoring and renewing the memorials was coordinated by the Cultural Heritage Foundation and financed from the state budget of the Republic of Poland.

Poland financed also the replicas of both lions and their placement in the current location of the original works of art.
